ABC's of 2nd Grade

A is for...

Absences: You must provide a written excuse for all absences. Absences without an excuse will be recorded as unexcused. Absences other than sick, bereavement, or religious are also recorded as unexcused.
I will send home work with another child if requested. I do not expect a very sick child to complete the work. If you know your child will be out for an extended period of time due to illness, please contact me so we can make arrangements for your child’s work.

Allergies: Please let me know of any allergies your child has especially for food.

Attendance: Your child is expected to be in school every day unless he/she is sick. Perfect attendance will be recognized at the end of the school year.

B is for...

Birthday parties:
I love celebrating birthdays! A special way to celebrate your child's birthday is for you or a special person to celebrate with the us. You may bring a treat and a book to read to the class. If no one is available, please send in the treat by 9:30 a.m. along with a book and I would be happy to read it.  We have 19 students in our class this year.

Book Clubs: Our class will be participating in the Scholastic Book Club each month. There is no obligation to purchase books. However, they do offer some books for $1 and the students are thrilled when the books arrive. Please send in a check or money order for all book orders payable to Scholastic Book Clubs by the date on the form.

C is for...

Change: Please let me know if there is a change in your home life that you think may affect your child in school. This will help me understand changes in your child’s behavior. Everything will be kept confidential.

Checking your child in/out: You must check your child in/out of the office when dropping your child off late/picking your child up early. Please do not send your child in to the building alone.

Conferences: I will schedule conferences on and around the days designated in the school calendar. A letter will go home advising you of the dates and times available for a conference to see when you are able to attend. Please contact me by placing a note in your child’s folder if you would like to schedule a conference earlier. Your child is a priority with me and communication between home and school is very important.

Curriculum: Please refer to the 2nd Grade Curriculum Overview Booklet.

D is for...

Discipline: Establishing good classroom discipline is essential to each child’s success, confidence, and well-being. Every child should feel that the classroom environment is safe and secure. In addition, it is important that each child learn to develop self-discipline and good work habits, to resolve conflict peacefully, and to think independently.
A copy of the Classroom Discipline Plan was sent home on the first day of school. Please review and sign this plan with your child, if you have not done so already.

Dress: Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the season.

Envelopes:
Please send in all money and notes in a sealed envelope with the following information on the front: Name of student, Mrs. Bleck, and what the money is for (school picture, book orders, lunch, snack, etc.). Put the envelope in your child’s folder.

Extra help: If your child needs additional practice mastering a skill, I am available for extra help every Wednesday at 8:00 a.m.

 F is for...

Folders:
Please check your child’s folder and backpack every day. This folder will contain important work, notices, and notes. The only papers that should be returned to school are notices that need to be filled out and completed homework. Please also use this folder as a means of communicating with me.

Footwear: Please make sure that your child is wearing the appropriate footwear to school. As long as the weather is decent, we will be playing on the playground. I recommend that your child wear closed toe shoes or sneakers instead of sandals to play on the playground.
